Boga Wreck

An upright Dutch-built freighter scuttled off Kubu

Area photo: Bernd · CC BY 2.0

The Boga Wreck is a cargo ship built in the Netherlands and sunk on purpose in 2012 just north of the main Tulamben dive zone, off Kubu. It sits upright and largely intact on sand, which makes it a deep wreck dive and a training ground for divers working on deep and wreck skills.

Also known as Kubu Wreck.

The dive

The 40 m hull rests upright on a sandy slope that starts at 15 m and runs down past 35 m, with the deepest parts of the wreck at about 40 m. Schools of fusiliers stream past the bridge, lionfish hold station in the stairwells and large groupers shelter beneath the deck.

The ship is still remarkably intact, so divers can swim around the whole structure or, with a guide, enter it for wreck penetration practice. Away from the hull the sandy slope holds stingrays, garden eels and flounders.
