Ilhote das Couves Face Oeste
Vertical wall to 23 m with a boulder chamber at its foot
On the outer, western face of Ilhote das Couves the rock drops as a vertical wall from the surface to the bottom, between 12 and 23 m. At the foot of the wall large boulders form a huge chamber where groupers and badejos are commonly seen.

The dive
The dive is on the outside of Ilhote das Couves, on its western face, where the mooring is sheltered from east winds. Here the shore projects vertically as a wall, running straight from the surface down to the bottom. The working profile is between 12 and 23 m, along the face of the wall itself rather than over a sloping reef.
At the base of the wall, large boulders stack up to form an enormous chamber, a hall of rock on the bottom. This is where groupers (garoupas) and badejos are commonly seen among the boulders. Ilhote das Couves is uninhabited and covered in Atlantic forest, and like the other islands of the group it is ringed by rocky shores that make good dive profiles.
