The dive

The site is the tip of a large rock slab off Ilha Rapada, with the boat moored in shelter from east and southeast winds. The slab has two faces. To the east it breaks up into a shallower patchy reef, from 3 m, and to the southwest it drops abruptly to form a rock wall that reaches 18 m, so the same site offers a shallow reef and a short wall.

The slab holds a wide variety of fish, among them peixes pedra, French angelfish (frades), squirrelfish (jaguareçás), grunts (corcorocas), budiões, parrotfish and pescadas. In September and October the site changes character: a large number of stingrays (raias prego) can be seen mating over the slab.
