Formations 13,000 to 350,000 years old inside a deep, roller-coaster passage
Dan's Cave's neighbouring system in the South Abaco pine forest, sharing the same guide-only access through Bahamas Underground. Ralph's Cave is known among cave divers for formations spanning 13,000 to 350,000 years old — soda-straw stalactites, helictites and columns up to nine metres tall — and for a deep, roller-coastering passage that Brian Kakuk has surveyed past 45 metres while pushing toward Dan's Cave from the far side.

The dive
The shallower reaches of Ralph's Cave are its showcase: rooms such as Laura's Castle hold transparent soda-straw stalactites and stalagmites alongside helictites twisting in directions gravity should not allow, and columns as thin as a twig or as thick as a sequoia trunk. Because many of these formations sit within the halocline, disturbed water can cloud a diver's view within seconds, which is part of why cinematographers who have shot here rate it harder to film than Dan's Cave next door.
Past the decorated sections, a north-west passage climbs toward a branch near the top of a rise before turning sharply south-east, roller-coastering between about 37 and 47 metres over a cracked, deep-red mud floor. Brian Kakuk's exploration dives here have run past three and a half hours on staged sidemount cylinders, pushing this deeper passage in the general direction of Dan's Cave, though the two systems have not been connected by a continuous dived line.
Restrictions along the way require stages to be pushed ahead rather than worn, and the passage alternates between wide, sediment-floored rooms and narrow gaps between breakdown boulders. This is exploration-grade cave diving rather than a standard guided tour, and Bahamas Underground reserves its deeper sections for experienced, full-cave-certified divers on staged, decompression dives.
Background
Named, like Dan's Cave, for one of the early Abaco cave explorers, Ralph's Cave has been surveyed by Brian Kakuk since the 1990s alongside Dan's Cave, with the two systems' passages totalling more than 18 kilometres combined. Kakuk has continued pushing Ralph's Cave's deep passages in the years since, including a 2010 dive that reached 47 metres roughly 1.2 kilometres from the entrance while exploring a branch trending toward Dan's Cave.
