Batu Pendeta
A canyon-cut plateau at 15 m before the drop to 40 m

A solitary pinnacle that stands above the surface and drops away underwater, with a plateau at around 15 m cut into canyons before the rock falls to 40 m. It is the deeper, stronger-current option among Bangka's rocks, and it pays for that with clarity of 20 to 30 m and traffic off the wall — dogtooth tuna, jacks and sharks over a reef of fusiliers and unicornfish.

The dive
The pinnacle breaks the surface, which makes the drop straightforward: you descend beside the rock onto the plateau at around 15 m, where the top of the site is cut into canyons. That shelf is the working part of the dive and where the reef fish concentrate — angelfish, triggerfish and butterflyfish over the coral, with fusiliers and unicornfish streaming past on the moving water.
From the plateau the rock drops away, and the deep leg runs along that drop-off to a maximum of 40 m. This is where the site earns its reputation: dogtooth tuna and jacks hold off the wall, sharks pass along it, and visibility of 20 to 30 m means you see them coming. Currents run stronger here than on Bangka's sheltered sites, so the sensible shape is the deep leg first and the rest of the dive back up on the plateau.

Season follows Bangka Island: Mar–Nov is the settled season with the calmest channels; the north-west monsoon from December to February brings wind and swell.
Know before you go
- A 40 m drop-off in stronger current than the rest of the area: it is easy to be carried both deep and long, so the deep leg goes first and the group stays tight on the rock.
Questions divers ask
How deep is Batu Pendeta?+
The plateau sits at around 15 m and the drop-off runs to 40 m. That makes it one of Bangka's deeper rocks and an advanced dive rather than an all-levels one, with stronger current than the sheltered sites.
