Arch Rock is the landmark at the extreme east point of East Anacapa, a 12 m natural bridge that also marks the eastern boundary of the Anacapa Island State Marine Reserve. Dives along this protected stretch work rocky reef between roughly 15 and 37 m, with a full Southern California cast of sheephead, garibaldi, kelp bass and nudibranchs on the rock.

The dive
The arch itself is the landmark rather than the dive: a 12 m natural bridge standing above the water at the extreme east point of East Anacapa. Underwater, the dive sites along this stretch of the reserve run from about 15 m down to 37 m, so the profile is picked on the day — shallower rock and kelp bass close in, deeper reef further out — and the deep end eats bottom time quickly in water this cold.
Visibility averages 9 to 24 m, and what it shows is a Southern California line-up: California sheephead and garibaldi working the rock, kelp bass holding in midwater, moray eels and horn sharks tucked into ledges, leopard sharks and bat rays over the sand, and nudibranchs on almost any surface you slow down for. Giant sea bass are recorded here too. Everything inside the reserve is protected — the boundary runs along Anacapa's north coast from Arch Rock west to Tidepools, on the east part of West Anacapa — so nothing is taken and nothing is moved.

Season follows Channel Islands: Water is clearest and calmest September-November after summer plankton blooms settle; winter storms bring rough crossings and colder water.
Know before you go
- Water is 13-21°C (55-70°F) and the park recommends wetsuits and hoods; plan exposure protection for repeat dives before the boat leaves the harbour.
- The park warns that ocean currents outside the coves and protected beach areas can be strong and extremely dangerous, and this coast is open to them.

Questions divers ask
How deep is the diving at Arch Rock?+
Dive sites along this part of the Anacapa Island State Marine Reserve run from about 15 m to 37 m. The deeper end needs advanced or deep certification, and in 13-21°C water it is worth planning the shallower profile unless conditions are good.
Can you take anything from the reserve?+
No. Arch Rock marks the eastern end of the Anacapa Island State Marine Reserve, which runs along the island's north coast to Tidepools on the east part of West Anacapa. It is a no-take reserve, so the diving is look-only.
