L'Enfer de Dante

The boat sits over rock that starts at 17 metres and falls away to 70. Get the floor agreed before anyone leaves the surface, because the pinnacle will take a diver deeper than a recreational plan should go and there is nothing on the way down to stop the descent. The shot puts you on the top of the rock, which is where the dive is worked from: the club gates the site to Niveau II divers and treats it as one of its deepest.

Grouper sit in the folds and scorpionfish and capons hold still on the ledges, so the close looking is worth as much as the wide view. Lower down the faces carry red gorgonian sea fans, and schools of barracuda hang off the pinnacle in the open water where the rock drops away. The deeper you go the less of the colour survives, which is a reason to bring a light rather than a reason to go deeper.

The ascent is the same rock in reverse, spiralling up the pinnacle rather than leaving it. That keeps a reference in sight the whole way and lets any decompression be run against the structure instead of a free-floating line, which matters on a site whose shallow end is still 15 m. Nothing here gives you a shallow reef to drift onto at the end, so the last part of the plan is worth as much thought as the first.
