Santa Rosa Wall
A face that starts at 15 m and drops straight into the blue

A vertical wall on Cozumel's southern reef line that begins at about 15 metres and drops straight past recreational limits. It is run as a drift, with the flow carrying divers along a face of immense sponges and undercut stony coral broken by caves and swim-through tunnels. Eagle rays, turtles and large grouper are all regular here.

The dive
The drop-in is over the top of the reef at around 15 metres, where the wall begins and falls straight away below. Groups descend together, settle at the depth the guide sets, and let the flow carry them along the face rather than swimming it. The wall itself is the reference: hold trim, adjust a metre or two at a time, and keep the face on one shoulder while the current does the work.
The face is hung with immense sponges and overhangs of stony coral, and it is cut through with caves and tunnels that groups drop into and come back out of a little further along. Eagle rays, turtles and large grouper all show here. Depth is the thing to watch: the wall keeps going to hundreds of feet, so the profile is run to a maximum of around 40 metres rather than to whatever the site offers. Groups finish above the wall on the shallower shelf, where a few coral heads alongside make a place to hold the safety stop.

Season follows Cozumel: January–April is prime with December close behind; lighter trades keep the leeward side calm, though winter nortes can shut the port for a day. Peak hurricane risk falls in September and October.
Know before you go
- The wall drops away to hundreds of feet and it is easy to get deep quickly. Set a floor before you enter and watch your gauges through the dive rather than following the face down.
