A cavern on the north coast near Agia Pelagia, entered at 17 m after a descent down a rock wall in open blue water. The passage runs about 30 m into the cliff through a chamber of stalactites and stalagmites, and a vertical siphon with a fixed rope climbs from it into an air pocket inside the rock. Fresh groundwater seeping from the roof shimmers where it meets the salt water.

The dive
The dive starts in open blue water on a rock wall, and the descent takes you down it to a wide cave mouth at 17 m. Inside, the passage runs about 30 m into the cliff, through a chamber hung with stalactites and stalagmites that were formed in air long before the sea reached them. The deepest ground on the dive is 26 m, and visibility here is typically around 24 m.
Fresh groundwater seeps out of the roof and meets the salt water as a visible shimmer, and that is the tell for the second half of the dive: a vertical siphon with a fixed rope leads up from the chamber into an air-filled space inside the rock. Climbing it and reversing it is what makes this an advanced cavern dive rather than a swim-through, and it is done on the line.

Season follows Crete: April to November is the season, warmest from July to September; the summer meltemi can blow out the exposed north-coast sites for a day or two at a time.
Know before you go
- The whole northern sector of the site is open water and the summer Meltemi blows from the N through NNE, so the entry is the first thing a swell shuts down.
- The siphon is a true overhead with one way out; the fixed rope is there to be used and the group has to stay in order on it.
