Poseidon Pillar
A sunlit chimney climbing through the inside of the rock
Poseidon Pillar is a rock off Hvar that breaks the surface and hides a vertical chimney inside it. Daylight falling through the cracks in the chimney's ceiling makes the swim-through the reason divers come, and the rock around it shelters moray eels, scorpionfish and, usually, a conger eel.
Where it is and how deep
43.1867° N, 16.3877° EApproximate position — the dashed circle shows where the site lies; your operator's briefing has the mooring.
The dive
The dive is built around the chimney. It starts at 30 m and the route rises through it in half-light, with cracks and holes in the ceiling lit by the sun, until it exits at 11 m. Scorpionfish and moray eels live on the rock, with the occasional lobster, and a conger eel and a forkbeard usually guard the site.
