Police Corner
Huge overhangs on a corner swept by medium to strong current

Police Corner is a central Komodo site whose topography includes huge overhangs, and it is rated as an advanced dive because of a current that runs medium to strong. The bottom reaches 30 m. The overhangs are the reason to come and also the practical shelter on a dive spent largely out of the flow.

The dive
The site is a corner, and corners in Komodo are where the water accelerates. The current here runs medium to strong, so the entry is committed and the early part of the dive is about getting down and getting in against the structure before the flow decides for you. The bottom is at 30 m, and the deeper part of the profile comes first.
The topography includes huge overhangs, and they shape the rest of the dive. Working under and along them keeps you out of the worst of the current and gives the site its character, and the profile steps up gradually as you move around the corner. Ascents are made off the reef with an SMB, which is normal practice for the current sites in this part of the park.

Season follows Komodo: Liveaboards run all year: April is often rated the best month, July to September is the big-fish peak, and the rainy months bring the best visibility and the mantas.
Know before you go
- Current runs medium to strong around the corner and can change through the dive; the overhangs give shelter but also make it easy to lose sight of the group.
