Akasaki
Rocky carpet with light coral growth and crabs peering from the nooks
Akasaki is an easy shore dive on Kozushima over a rocky bottom carpeted with mild coral growth. It stays shallow, no deeper than about 10 m (33 ft), with a mix of reef fish over the rocks. Divers come for the macro life, and the shallow depth leaves time for long photo sessions.

The dive
Divers enter from the shore and swim out over a rocky floor coated with mild coral growth. The whole dive stays above about 10 m (33 ft), so bottom time is long, and the rocks hold a mix of reef fish species with small critters tucked into the gaps, which makes it a dive for slow macro hunting.
Bluespotted cornetfish swirl around the rocks, and crabs peer out of the nooks and crannies, alongside sea slugs, starfish and wrasses swaying in the surge. The inlet itself is about 6 m deep; outside it the bottom drops to 20 m. It is the island's most popular spot for snorkelling, try-dives and training.
