Calimera
Shore-entry reef at 7-8 m, the local beginner and refresher dive

A shore dive from Playa de Montaña Roja with a maximum depth of seven or eight metres, used for beginners and for refresher dives. You get in, head south, descend onto the reef and follow it in one direction and back to the same exit. Octopus and cuttlefish are the regular finds; stingrays, angel sharks, barracuda, a moray eel or a turtle come up occasionally.

The dive
Entry is from the beach at Playa de Montaña Roja. You get in the water, go under, head south and descend slowly until the reef comes up at a maximum depth of seven or eight metres. That shallow ceiling is the character of the dive: gas lasts, there is no profile to manage and the light is good the whole way, which is why it is used for beginners and for refresher dives.
From there the route is out and back. Follow the reef to the right and turn, or follow it to the left and turn, either way finishing at the same entry and exit point. Octopus and cuttlefish can be found, along with red mullet, damselfish, parrotfish, starfish, sardines and flounders; stingrays, angel sharks, barracuda, a moray eel or a turtle are occasional sightings rather than expected ones.
