Parc

A compact reef at about 43 m, minutes from the port

Area photo: Diego Delso · CC BY-SA 4.0

Parc is a relatively small reef only a few minutes by boat from the port of Flic en Flac, and the dive centre counts it among its deep sites at approximately 43 metres. The reef is compact, so the dive is defined by depth rather than by ground covered, and the ascent takes up most of the time in the water.

The dive

The dive is not a casual one despite the short crossing. The reef is relatively small and sits at approximately 43 metres, which is why the centre counts it among its deep sites, so the descent is direct and the bottom phase is counted in minutes rather than explored at leisure. No shallower section of the site is published to stretch the profile out on.

At that depth the usable time on the reef is brief and the ascent makes up most of the dive, which makes this a site for divers with deep training who are comfortable running a plan on a timer. What is published covers the depth and the position and nothing else — no route, no species, no seasonal pattern — so ask the centre what the reef has been holding before committing a deep dive to it.

Season follows Mauritius: Cyclone season (Jan-Mar) can disrupt trips and cloud visibility; the trade-wind months of Apr-Nov give steadier, clearer conditions.

Know before you go

  • At approximately 43 metres this is past the recreational limit: narcosis and fast gas consumption make a fixed turn time and a deep-diving background necessary.

Questions divers ask

How deep is the Parc dive site?+

Approximately 43 metres, which the dive centre counts among its deep sites; it is a short boat ride from Flic en Flac but a serious profile.
