Man O' War Shoals
A shallow shoal off Torrens Point, capped at 25 m
Photo: CareAhLine · CC0
Man O' War Shoals lies off Torrens Point at the northwest corner of Saba, and the marine park describes it as a submerged extension of the headland rather than one of the island's offshore pinnacles. It does not exceed 25 m, which buys longer bottom times than the deep seamounts, and the rock is covered in sponges, smaller corals and sea fans.
Also known as Man of War Shoals, Man o' War Shoals.
Where it is and how deep
17.6467° N, 63.2535° WApproximate position — the dashed circle shows where the site lies; your operator's briefing has the mooring.
The dive
The shoals sit at the northwest corner of the island, where the Torrens Point headland carries on under water as a run of submerged and semi-submerged rock. Nothing on it goes below 25 m, so this is one of the shallower dives on Saba, and the profile is not the tight deep-then-up plan the offshore pinnacles demand. There is time to work along the rock rather than race the computer back up.
You drop on a mooring and follow the rock. Walls and boulders are covered in sponges, smaller corals and sea fans, and black durgons and barracuda school around the mooring lines themselves, so the fish start before you have left the descent. Blacktip sharks show as shapes out in the blue rather than close passes, and stingrays sit on the grey sand between the rock.
Diamond Rock stands a little further out, the semi-submerged spire the park pairs with the shoals as the other extension of the same headland and likewise capped at 25 m; the park warns of strong currents there, worth knowing since the two sit in the same corner of the marine park. Inshore, the spires at Wells Bay and Torrens Point close off a sheltered cove with underwater caves and tunnels.

Know before you go
- No current rating is published for the shoals themselves, and the park warns of strong currents at neighbouring Diamond Rock, so check conditions with the boat before you drop.

Questions divers ask
How deep is Man O' War Shoals?+
The Saba Conservation Foundation states that Man O' War Shoals and Diamond Rock do not exceed depths of 25 m (80 ft), which is shallower than Saba's offshore pinnacles and allows longer bottom times.
Can you shore dive Man O' War Shoals?+
No. There is no shore diving anywhere on Saba, so this dive runs off a day boat out of Fort Bay, the island's only harbour, inside the Saba National Marine Park.
