A narrow sponge ridge topping out at 33.5 m in open water

Outer Limits is one of the offshore Pinnacles group southwest of the island: a narrow, sponge-covered ridge rising out of deep water to a top at 33.5 m. Creole wrasse swarm the summit, black jacks hunt through them and the ridge ends in a vertical drop-off at its northeastern tip. The depth keeps the time on the structure short.

The dive
Nothing here comes near the surface. The pinnacle rises from deep water to a top at 33.5 m, so the descent is made down the line with the structure appearing late and the depth setting the terms of the dive from the moment you reach it. Bottom time on the summit is short by definition, and the rest of the dive is worked back up the shallower part of the ridge and the water column above it.
The ridge is narrow, and swimming it toward the northeastern tip brings you to a vertical drop-off. Creole wrasse swarm across the rock in numbers with chromis holding above it, and the reason to keep half an eye off the structure is the hunting: black jacks run through the schools and green moray eels patrol the ridge. The rock itself is covered in sponge. Come back to the line and hold the safety stop with the boat above.

Season follows Saba: December–April offers the calmest seas for pinnacle access; September–October bring the highest hurricane risk.
Know before you go
- The summit is at 33.5 m and the ridge falls away into open water below it, with no shallower ground to finish on: fix a turn time before you leave the line and ascend in the water column.
