Blackadder

A 1905 clipper wreck at 9 m, dived every day of the year

The Blackadder was a 70-metre three-masted clipper whose moorings gave way in a storm in 1905, driving it onto the coral reefs off Boa Viagem beach. Its structure is still preserved at 9 m, and the site is dived every day of the year for try dives, course checkout dives, night dives and freediving.

Also known as Naufrágio Blackadder.

The dive

The wreck rests at 9 m off Boa Viagem beach, and its structure is still preserved and apparent. The shallow depth gives long bottom times, and the site serves for try dives, course checkout dives, night dives and freediving as well as ordinary wreck dives. Visibility is best just after high tide, when it runs from 5 to 15 m.

Life on the wreck is rich for a dive in the middle of the city: seahorses, lobsters, octopus and small barracuda live around it, along with surgeonfish, dog snapper and parrotfish, and many shoals shelter in the structure. It is one of the favourite sites of divers in Bahia and is dived all year and every day.
