Kelifos Island

A wall off an uninhabited goat island, starting at 5 m

Kelifos is an uninhabited islet of 2 square kilometres between the Sithonia and Kassandra peninsulas, opposite Neos Marmaras, home to nothing but wild goats, and the rock on its flank is dived as the Great Wall. The wall starts at 5 m and Azure Diving Center lists the site to 60 m, while the seabed continues to 150 m, so there is no natural floor; the island is a popular snorkelling stop as well as a dive.

The dive

The boat drops you at the island's wall, and the dive starts in the shallows at 5 m, on the same rock the island's snorkellers use. From there the face falls away: the operator lists the depths as starting from 5 m and continuing to 150 m, so there is no bottom to aim for, and the profile is set by the plan and by certification rather than by the seabed. Azure Diving Center lists the site to a maximum of 60 m for all levels. Keep the wall on one side and open water on the other.

Work along the wall at the chosen depth, then come back up the same face to finish in the shallows at the top of the rock. The islet itself is worth a look on the surface interval: 2 square kilometres in the Toroneos Gulf between the Sithonia and Kassandra peninsulas, uninhabited, with a population of wild goats and nothing else.
