La Tixera

A V-shaped platform at 25 m with a drop-off to 40

A few minutes by boat off Playa San Juan, La Tixera is a V-shaped rock platform at 25 metres with a drop-off falling away from it to 40. Moray eels and octopus work the rock, stingrays and other rays cross the ground around it, and typical Atlantic fish hold over the platform. Flying fish are seen here as well.

The dive

The boat ride from Playa San Juan is a short one. You drop onto a V-shaped platform of rock at 25 metres, which is where the dive is spent, with the drop-off running away from its outer edge down to 40. Work the V, look over the lip, and let the plan rather than the terrain decide how far down the drop-off anyone goes.

Rays are the thing to watch for, stingrays among them, along with moray eels in the rock and octopus in the cracks. Typical Atlantic fish hold around the platform, and flying fish turn up over the site as well. The V is small enough to work in a single pass, so a slow lap of the platform with one look over the lip is a better plan than a run down the drop-off and back.
