Coral-covered slopes to about 18 m, one of the island's most popular sites
Coral Garden is one of the most popular dive sites on Tenggol Island, and the name is the description: gentle slopes covered in coral, with a maximum depth of about 18 m. It is a relaxed reef dive whose depth stays inside Open Water limits, dived for the coral landscape itself rather than for any big animal, and one an Open Water diver can do in full.

The dive
You descend from the boat onto the top of the slope and the reef falls away gently in front of you; the maximum depth on the site is about 18 m, so the guide will usually take the group down to the bottom of the slope first and then work back up. The terrain is consistent, gentle slopes rather than walls or drop-offs, which makes it easy to hold a steady depth and spend the dive looking at the coral rather than managing the profile.
The coral landscape is the reason the site is popular, and the pace is slow: a pass along the slope at depth, a turn, and a return along the shallower part of the reef. The dive ends over the reef top with a safety stop above the coral before surfacing to the boat. The starting depth, the current, the visibility and the species you can expect to see are not given in the published description, so the resort's briefing is the place to fill those in.

Season follows Tenggol Island: The island is closed for the northeast monsoon from November to the end of February; whale sharks are logged mostly from August to October, with a few in May.
