Sri Nahkota

Sri Nahkota is a stone wall off Tenggol Island that runs from about 5 m at the top to more than 30 m at the bottom. It is dived along the edge of the wall, and the reason to come is small: the rock carries all kinds of sea slugs and nudibranchs, which makes it the island's macro photography dive rather than a site for big animals.

The dive
You descend from the boat onto the top of the wall at about 5 m and drop over the edge. How deep you go is a choice rather than a requirement: the wall carries on past 30 m, but the macro life is on the rock face itself, so most of the dive is spent hugging the wall at whatever depth the guide sets for the group, moving slowly along the edge of the stone.
Work along the wall with a close eye on the rock: the published description promises all kinds of sea slugs and nudibranchs on the stone, and they are small enough to be missed at swimming pace. Macro photographers will want to settle at one depth and cover a short stretch of wall thoroughly rather than swim its length. The dive ends by working back up the face to the top of the wall at about 5 m, where the safety stop is spent over the shallow rock. Current and visibility are not published for this site.

Season follows Tenggol Island: The island is closed for the northeast monsoon from November to the end of February; whale sharks are logged mostly from August to October, with a few in May.
