An upright trawler at 24 m, 90 m from the Liberty

A former French fishing trawler sunk off Protaras in December 2013 to join the Liberty in the Protaras Marine Protected Area. She sits upright in 24 m of water, 25 m long with holes cut for easy entry, and groupers, lionfish, moray eels and passing amberjacks make her a good first wreck for divers with some experience.
Also known as Nemesis III Wreck, Nemesis Wreck.

The dive
The boat ride takes less than 5 minutes, and a mooring buoy installed on the wreck marks the descent. The Nemesis III sits upright on the seabed in 24 m of water, and the deepest point on the wreck is 24.4 m. She is 25 m long and 6 m wide, and holes were cut into the hull before she was sunk, which makes her easy to enter.
Divers swim through the hull and the bridge, the small cabin with its railed veranda, the corridor and the engines, one of which was left in place. Groupers, lionfish, moray eels, sea slugs and squid live on the wreck, barracuda and stingrays are seen nearby, and large numbers of amberjacks pass through seasonally. The Liberty lies just 90 m away, and a two-metre cross stands on the seabed between the two wrecks.

The Nemesis III was built in France in 1956 as a fishing trawler and transferred to Cyprus in 1987. She was sunk deliberately in December 2013 inside the Protaras Marine Protected Area to create an artificial reef beside the Liberty, sunk in 2009. A two-metre cross placed by the Russian explorer Feodor Konyukhov stands on the seabed between the two wrecks, later joined by a statue of the Mother of God.
