Plovanov Stol
Near-vertical wall to 40 m on Krk's east side, dived one way

Plovanov Stol is a steep wall on the east side of Krk that drops almost vertically to 40 m, with many small holes and rock formations along the face, and it is usually dived one way. At the foot of the cliff there are holes that hold lobster, conger and sea spiders have been seen, and the fish are the Adriatic regulars, bream and monkfish among them.

The dive
The dive is usually conducted as a one-way dive: drop in at one end of the wall, follow the face in one direction and come up at the other, so there is no need to turn back on yourself. Agree the direction and the surfacing point with the crew before you go in, and stay together so there is one group to collect at the end.
The steep wall drops almost vertically to 40 m. Choose a depth on the face, follow it along, and check the holes at the foot of the cliff if your plan takes you that deep: lobster live in them, and conger and sea spiders have also been sighted. Bream, monkfish and the other typical Adriatic fish move along the wall as you go.
Work gradually upward through the second half of the dive so that you arrive at the shallow top of the wall with time for the stop, then surface at the end of the run. A one-way wall like this rewards a slow pace: there is no return leg to save gas for, so spend it on the face, and on the small holes and rock formations the operator points out along it.

Season follows Kvarner: Peak season is May to September and conditions hold into October; from winter into early spring the bora churns the water and brings current, with the sea at 12–14 °C.
