Octagon Reef
Mainland drop-off from 5 m to 30 m, five minutes from the jetty
Area photo: Bernard DUPONT · CC BY-SA 4.0
A drop-off wall on the West Bali mainland coast, five minutes by boat from the jetty at Naya Gawana, running from 5 m at the top down to 30 m. Currents here are occasional and light to medium rather than constant, so the site is usually dived as an unhurried pass along the face and back over the shallow reef.

The dive
The boat ride is short enough that the site works as a first dive of the morning or a fill-in between longer trips. You drop onto the top of the reef in about 5 m and swim to the edge, where the drop-off begins and the wall falls to 30 m. The whole of that range sits below one short stretch of reef, so the depth you run is set by the plan rather than by the shape of the site.
Currents are occasional rather than constant here, and light to medium when they do run, so which way the group works along the face is decided on the day. The dive finishes on the shallow top of the reef, where 5 m of water makes the safety stop comfortable and the ascent short. Nothing about the profile is demanding as long as the deeper part of the wall is treated as a limit rather than a target.

Season follows Menjangan & West Bali: Divable all year thanks to the lee of Java; Apr–Nov is driest, and the wet season only affects surface conditions.
