Kohanee
The last reef before the Atlantic, 10 m to past 30 m

Kohanee is the last section of reef before the Atlantic, with a wide depth range running from a fairly narrow top at 10 m down past 30 m in places. Its position at the edge is what sets it apart: the SSI dive-site listing rates it arguably the best site in Grenada for sponge and coral growth, and the dive is spent close in on the structure.

The dive
Entry is over the top of the reef, which sits at about 10 m and is fairly narrow, so the first job is to pick a side and commit to it. From there the ground falls away in places to beyond 30 m, and the usual pattern is to drop down the outer face early, work along it at the deepest point of the dive, then step back up on to the top for the long shallow section.
Where the reef ends the Atlantic begins, and that proximity is what the site's growth is credited to: the sponge and coral cover is the reason Kohanee is dived, and the face is worth working slowly rather than covering ground. The narrow top then makes an easy place to finish, with the whole structure in sight while you hold your safety stop above it.

Season follows Grenada: December–May is driest with the calmest seas; June–November is rainier, though Grenada sits at the southern edge of the hurricane belt with comparatively lower risk.
Know before you go
- The reef top is narrow and the outer face drops past 30 m, so it is easy to slip deeper than planned while following the slope; agree a turn depth and watch gas on the deep section.
