Cova de la Sal
A protected wall shallow enough for a first dive

A well-protected point on the Montgrí park coast that gives two dives: the wall at 6 to 8 m, which is what the operator uses for Discover Scuba, or the Posidonia meadow between 12 and 18 m. The operator's own range for the site runs from 4 m to 22 m, and the spot is sheltered from the south wind.

The dive
There are two dives here and they suit different divers. The shallow one follows the wall at 6 to 8 m, the profile the operator calls ideal for Discover Scuba, in a zone it describes as well protected and sheltered from the south wind. The operator's own range for the point runs from 4 m down to 22 m, so the wall carries on below the shallow route.
The other option drops onto the Posidonia meadow between 12 and 18 m, where the ground is seagrass rather than rock. Juvenile wrasse, cuttlefish, octopus and nudibranchs take refuge in it, and the wall as it declines carries the rich benthic fauna the operator credits this point with. Either way the dive stays shallow enough to be a long one, which is what makes it useful as a second dive or a training site.

Season follows Costa Brava: Water runs from about 13 °C in February to 25 °C in July and August; no L'Escala centre publishes closing months, and the tramuntana can keep boats in port in any month.
