Camps Reef
Creviced volcanic reef cut by sandy channels
Camps Reef is a shallow volcanic reef close to port on St. Kitts, named for the nearby Camps parish. The rock is colourful and full of crevices, cut through by sandy channels, and the dive stays mostly between 12 and 18 m (40–60 ft). A hydrothermal vent warms the water on the reef, and more seahorses and frogfish have been seen here than at any other site on the island.

The dive
The reef lies between 12 and 18 m (40–60 ft), with its deepest edges near 21 m (70 ft), in a moderate current. Divers can warm their hands at the vent, look into the recesses and ledges for lobsters, crabs and porcupinefish, and find stingrays and nurse sharks resting in the sandy channels. A 17th- or 18th-century anchor also lies on the site.
