Radazul

Walk-in entry with the bottom past 40 m a short swim out

A shore dive on Tenerife's east coast with one of the easiest entries and exits on the island, where the bottom falls past 40 metres a short swim from the beach. The shallow ground down to about 12 metres carries courses and check dives, while the slope beyond it is used by experienced and technical divers. Octopus, cuttlefish and the occasional stingray are the regulars.

The dive

Radazul is one of the easiest entries and exits on Tenerife, which is why so much of the island's training happens here. You walk in from the shore, and the shallow ground down to about 12 metres gives instructors a stable platform for course work and for check dives at the start of a trip. It is the site the centres fall back on when the weather has shut down the northern coast.

Swim a short distance out and the ground keeps going, past 40 metres, which is what lets the same entry serve technical divers and an Open Water class on the same morning. The dive is worth taking slowly rather than far: there is a lot of fish over the ground, octopus and cuttlefish are about, and stingrays turn up from time to time, so the shallow half repays a low-mileage, eyes-down style.

Questions divers ask

Is Radazul good for beginners?+

Yes. The entry and exit are easy and the shallow area runs to about 12 metres, which is why it is used for courses and for check dives when the weather rules out the northern sites.

How deep is the dive at Radazul?+

The bottom drops past 40 metres a short swimming distance from the beach, so the site covers everything from beginner depths to technical diving from the same entry.
