Kamelfels

A rock rising from over 40 m to break the surface

Kamelfels is a rock that climbs all the way from beyond 40 m to break the surface, a short boat ride from the Paleokastritsa monastery bay. The site is a typical Mediterranean rocky seascape noted for its amount of fish and biodiversity, and because the rock tops out at the surface it is snorkelled as well as dived.

The dive

The boat drops you at the rock a short ride from the bay near the monastery. Because the site runs from 0 m at the surface to over 40 m at its base, you choose your own dive: the profile can be as shallow or as deep as your training allows, and the rock face itself is the navigation — keep it on one shoulder and you cannot lose the site.

The terrain is classic Mediterranean rocky landscape, and the listings note an unusual amount of fish and general biodiversity for this coast. Work the deeper flanks early, then spiral shallower around the rock; the last part of the dive can be spent just under the surface, where the same rock is worked by snorkellers since it reaches all the way up.
